Orthenaartjes

When our friends at HilberinkBosch Architecten set about redesigning the oldest district in Den Bosch, they asked us to create an intervention rooted in the history of the area and the people who shaped it. We began where all good design begins: by listening. Through conversations with local residents, we distilled the spirit of the neighbourhood into three characters, each one a composite of the stories, personalities, and atmosphere that have defined Orthen Links for generations.

We translated them into gapers, those watchful, wide-mouthed figures from Dutch tradition, immortalised in ceramic and installed in the renewed district to keep a quiet eye on things. As they always have.

The project marked the beginning of two relationships that would prove defining: our collaboration with MOOOI, and our first steps toward the Taoxichuan Art Center in Jingdezhen.
