Portraits

Taoxichuan Art Center - Studio Edition

What happens when you open a mold too soon? These pieces know.

Conceived during our second residency at the Taoxichuan Art Center in Jingdezhen, Portraits continues where our ongoing fascination with faces meets the tension between time and material. Invited again to experiment within one of the oldest ceramic traditions on earth, we found our answer not in mastery, but in letting go.

Where most ceramics are coaxed into perfection, these are caught mid-transformation, pulled from the mold before the process is done. What happens next is between the clay, the plaster, the temperature, and time. We set the conditions. The object decides the rest.

The result is a face with a feeling we didn't choose and cannot repeat. Every piece carries its own expression, its own moment of becoming.
