'Boules' and 'Bouton' stool for Monoprix

PRODUCT DESIGN

2015

French retail chain Monoprix invites designers on a yearly basis in order to make design accessible. In 2015 we were invited to design a ‘Dutch Design Stool’ which would be available in their stores for a limited time.

Starting point for our designs was the simple milking stool as used by farmers to milk their cows. The ornamentation of the chair is explanatory for the construction. The wooden ball joints in ‘Boules’, for example, provide just the right amount of material to construct the joint while giving the product a slim and playful feel. The ‘Bouton’ shows it’s precious weld trough the wooden seating instead of hiding it, like a button being sewn onto a garment.
