Simmerhûs Interior design

Simmerhûs is a holiday home on the island of Terschelling. Sustainable, contemporary, and rooted in the island's cultural history. Designed by Team V Architectuur. Interior by Kranen/Gille.

The clients brought their own collection of furniture, art, and design objects. Every party involved treated this as a passion project. The result is a gesamtkunstwerk: fully considered, nothing accidental.

Wild pine veneer and ash. Playful, precise, custom-built to fit. At just 75m², the house makes every square metre count. High windows, sightlines, and layered spatial tricks create a sense of space that defies the footprint. The proportions and spatial logic draw from Japanese aesthetics: minimal, serene — but with the edge of tension and adventure that defines Kranen/Gille's work.

Details matter here. Shelves sized for a bottle of wine or olive oil. Niches cut into the depth of the walls for storage, audio, wireless charging. A children's room that is part treehouse, part bunk bed — ingeniously stacked, full of discovery. A master bedroom that opens up like a cathedral: unexpected, quiet, grand.

Small house. Big ideas.
