Vitis Vinifera
Sometimes we imagine steel as something living. A shrub, a climbing plant that reaches and grips wherever it needs to in order to grow, or, because it is steel after all, to fulfil a purpose.
When the owner of a monumental Dutch dyke house approached us to design a wine cellar, we didn't hesitate to put that idea into practice. Steel became a vine, rooting itself in the cellar and growing upward into the kitchen, branching as it goes. Along the way it forms racks for wine, marble plateaus that bloom like flowers, and lighting that emerges as naturally as leaves.
Structure and growth. Function and fantasy. All from a single material that refused to stand still.
